First of all, I absolutely adored this atmospheric closed-door spooky mystery, and it's hands-down my favorite thriller read of the year!
Summary: After years of avoiding one another, Daisy Darker's entire family is assembling for Nana's 80th birthday party in Nana's crumbling gothic house on a tiny tidal island. They're finally back together one last time, and when the tide comes in, they will be cut off from the rest of the world for 8 hours. The family arrives, each of them harboring secrets. Then, at the stroke of midnight, as a storm rages, Nana is found dead. An hour later, the next family member follows... Trapped on an island where someone is killing them one by one, the Darkers must reckon with their present mystery as well as their past secrets before the tide goes out and all is revealed.
Review: 5 HUGE STARS for this one! The setting of an island off the Cornish coast was the perfect spooky setting for this story that takes place over Halloween night. The Darker family is dysfunctional with a capital D - however, everything seems fine until family members start dying.... This absolutely perfect closed-door mystery definitely gave me "Clue" the movie (remember that one?) vibes, which was one of my favorite all-time movies as a kid.
Finally, the writing itself was so lyrical and beautiful (and full of so many truths) that I must have tabbed a hundred different pages (as you can see from the picture!). And the mystery itself will leave you guessing - and suspecting everyone! Don't sleep on this one.
